In short, it is much slower and less adaptable than other browsers, it doesn’t show newer websites as well as other browsers, has no add ons and is very slow to update and adapt. I used it for a long time until I got Firefox, and I haven’t looked back since. I hear Linux and Opera are superior or whatever but I have no inclination to try those out.

On Firefox, I can put on add-ons, add skins to my favorite websites, and run scripts that can’t be run in Firefox, also the interface is much more user friendly and adaptable, there are regular updates and it’s all around more fun to use. If you enjoy using IE, no one’s stopping you, but you’re missing out on alot of fun (and security)

I know, I found it perfect – especially when you can open multiple tabs – and add ons? They work fine.

From my point of view, apple’s safari is utter sh*te as it is very bland and dull.

microsoft is superior, it is so successful. in schools, the computers there all have microsoft – no school that I know of teaches pupils to use apple. END OF.

Internet explorer can be really slow, and freezes at times.

I think mozilla firefox is so much better than internet explorer because it runs faster, doesnt freeze as much and you have all these extra add on things like changing the skin of it and so much more, you should try it out sometime :)

There are lots of valid reasons for web designers and others criticizing IE:

Firstly, it doesn’t conform to w3c standards (though other browsers are guilty of this). It’s support of CSS before IE7 is spotty at best. It has a broken box model in versions before 7, and it just plain displays web pages ‘wrong’ a lot of the time. Even IE7 has some annoying bugs which require CSS hacks to fix. Often, development techniques developed to work in all browsers up to the release of IE7 didn’t work in IE7, while other bugs went unfixed.

Also, a lot of people think that IE held back the development of the web and of other browsers, because they were just so quirky. Rival browsers either went their own way (Netscape) or imitated IE for a long time (Opera), creating several other ‘broken’ browsers.

Mainly people criticize IE for security reasons, since many, many holes and vulnerabilities have been uncovered. This requires users to be vigilant in installing security updates to fix vulnerabilities…

…since many end users can’t be bothered to do this, and IE has a huge install base, hackers can use IE vulnerabilities to great effect, creating botnets, installing spyware and other malware, or just stealing your passwords or personal information.

To be fair, IE is the main target of malicious hackers due to it’s overwhelming share of the market (Safari has no viruses written for it because it represents 3% of pages viewed, as opposed to the ~70% for IE). But a few other browsers are just plain better (Firefox).

If you have used IE your whole life without a security problem, then you’re probably a very responsible end user who avoids suspicious web sites… its too bad that for every user like you there are 200,000 people who never patch or update their browser!

By the way IE8 will suck, too.
